Last night I dreamed that Nicky J grabbed my boob. It was about as awkward and hilarious as you might imagine. Then he did it again to make sure it was the right appendage and not my shoulder or something. A keen learner, that one!

On the bus I spotted something awesome and familiar: the tragic goth kid from the Patrick Wolf gig! He must live somewhere nearby! Generally people have no other reason to be seen in my neck of the woods. He was looking as tragic and gothic as he did a week ago, reading a newspaper. Shall I try to get his phone number for you if I see him again, [info]shiroi_chi?

Now I'm in the uni computer lab printing out srs academic articles such as Boldly Queer: Gender Hybridity in Queer as Folk and Romantic Friendship in the Nicholaevan Univesity. How would I live without an EBSCO access?

Kekrirokki tonight at Gloria. I desperately want to go as Pohjannaula will throw their last gig before a long hiatus, but it seems everyone already has plans. Pohjannaula is always worth it though, so I might just go alone.

By the way, I started that diary we talked about after PWolf. From now on I'm going to write down all the things that made me happy during the day to counterbalance any negativity that I might harbour toward people and things. It's a little black book that I carry with me at all times and hope to fill with shiny happy scribblings. Easy and time-efficient!

Somethings wrong with my Linux again, so I probably won\t be online much for some time. The only way I can even log on is via the original installation CD, which means everything is set to default and I cant access my data, or even fix the goddamn keyboard, as you might notice.

The silver lining is that I have most of that data safety/copied on an external hard drive, so nothing major is lost. At tops I\ll be hunting down a few fanvids and fics after I\ve got Windows back. Which is to say, Linux and I are professionally done.

Right, one more episode of the Epic Love Story of Stuart and Vince! (Ten years. TEN YEARS. My mid-teens in the shape of a television series. The difference between 1999 and 2009 is that I find myself appreciating Nathan and understanding Stuart as a person. The two things are not unconnected.)

The Patrick Wolf concert was possibly the most beautiful experience I've had all year & I consider myself truly privileged to have been there. Thank you, [info]bluesbell, again for giving me the heads-up! The combination of ridiculous squee, a sore index finger (hey, I accidentally cut it) and sleep deprivation won't allow for a full-length report, so I'm going to do something else instead: a poll.

There's this question that's been popping up in conversation all weekend. Many opinions have been given, some receiving more support than others. I would like to encourage everyone -- including those who didn't attend the concert and/or have no idea who the fuck Patrick Wolf is to begin with -- to participate. Only then can we know for certain that we have found the answer(s) and resume our normal lives.

What Is Patrick Wolf, Really? )

P.S. THIS IS THE FIRST POLL I'VE EVER MADE. I HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO TWEAK IT TOO MUCH AFTER POSTING, BUT SORRY IF I DO.

I don't have access to British television in real time, but apparently Nick Griffin is on right now. I have nothing intelligent to add to the rightful rage people are feeling, so have a scene from My Beautiful Laundrette instead:

God, these two. I saw MBL yesterday at the Finnish National Audiovisual Archive and absolutely loved it. I rather think all those right-wing loonies should be tied down and forced to watch it over and over again until they either embraced the love or perished.

Patrick Wolf tomorrow! Sorry, today. Apparently I'm still not in bed, contrary to all sense and reason. Therefore I shall leave you with this meme:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Torrents were acting very naughty to me all last week, so I'm just catching up with shows. AND WHAT SHOWS THEY ARE BEING.

Vampire Diaries 01x06, or the episode that made me fall hardcore )

There is no way I can watch SPN or Melrose tonight -- the cumulative squee might kill me. The latter I got into because of bb Ella, who might just be one of the best television characters ever. TPTB could so easily have butchered a great character concept with bad writing, but so far I've loved everything they've done with her. I get the feeling they actually LIKE her and WANT to see her SHINE. She's so good she makes me want to commit meta on representations of powerful women in popular media done right.

New Adam pics in Details, holy effing god. I miss the days I still had the time and tenacity to be half-active in [info]ontd_ai, which is where the cool kids play, but that's just not an option anymore. Regardless, Adam never left my heart or my pants, and if you inexplicably find yourself asking why, look no further than these pictures. You'll find the answer somewhere between ngh and unf.

Today I booked loads of train tickets for the UK trip. Last week I started making plans for another foreign trip, because obviously that's just what my bank balance needed. But it was too good to pass! On January 30th, brother and I will be seeing this in Stockholm:

The world seen through the eyes of Charles Darwin forms the basis for the performance Tomorrow, in a year. Theatre production company Hotel Pro Forma’s striking visuals blend with pop-duo The Knife’s ground-breaking music to create a new species of electro-opera.

ELECTRO-OPERA. ABOUT THE EVOLUTION. WITH MUSIC BY THE KNIFE. I'D SQUEE, BUT I'M AFRAID I'VE EXHAUSTED THIS YEAR'S TODAY'S SUPPLY. *feeble fistpump of victory*

The week has started out kind of miserable, though it's probably not about the week itself as much as it is about the epic Finnchester funtimes I had over the weekend, which make day-to-day life pale in comparison. I took part in my first official and planned meet-up (as opposed to "they found me at a slash panel and put me through all sorts of outlandish initiation rituals, such as dinner and an introduction round" which happened in July) so suffice it to say I felt a bit shy. But y'all were so nice (again), and reasonable amounts of Lamberti were consumed, so it was all good! *grouphugs fangirls*

Also, I can honest to god say I have never seen a sofa bigger than [info]maladroitoracle's. That thing must have been MADE for slumber parties! Also also, S1+2 Sam and Dean are so fresh-faced and innocent they break my nostalgic little heart. Also also also, [info]bluesbell is possibly THE BEST PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE, for she brought me this Nick Jonas poster, thus making sure my days from now on will be filled with pretty and that I can never again invite boys in my room, period. Three observations were made and generally supported:

1. Nick Jonas has some freakishly gorgeous arms
2. Nick Jonas is a top and WILL stare menacingly at you for thinking otherwise
3. There is nothing Christian about that poster, in the undying words of [info]neppu (I think)

In conclusion, FANGIRLS ROCK. How would I ever feel validated if it wasn't for you?

Ooh, and last night I stumbled upon the most gorgeous and sob-worthy Torchwood vid: All the Pretty Little Horses by [info]hollywoodgrrrl. The song is incidentally an all-time favourite of mine and paired with the carefully selected images it just becomes ten times more haunting. Go watch and leave the vidder some love!

Off to procrastinate from sleeping!

Someone has GOT to have vidded/songficced Pass This On by The Knife for Sam/Dean? It's so THEM. I like to imagine the narrator to be S3 Ruby, maybe with a crush on Dean rather than Sam (since she had less interaction with Dean), but there's lots of ROOM FOR INTERPRETATION. Maybe it's Becky? Maybe it's YOU?

Dreams I get: Dean Winchester having red-orange-yellow unicorn parrots (apparently, minions of his or something) have sex with every woman on this planet. The women greatly enjoying this.

I guess this is what happens when you come home after a long exhausting day, get tipsy while watching TVD and SPN in the comfort of your own bed, and subsequently squee yourself to sleep. Brainfail induced by lowered resistance to teh pretty. :(

Also related to the subject line, here we have The International Jurassic Park Erotic Fan-Fiction Writer's Association. If the layout alone isn't enough to make you flee in sheer terror, try stories like What's 25 Feet Tall and Comes in Pints? and Trannysaurus Rex. Actually, don't. For the love of all untarnished childhoods, DON'T.

Tallinn was great. The weather was beautiful and we discovered possible the best artsy little cafe in the world. The white chocolate tiramisu blew my mind. I bought more cake to take home, stocked up on thights and on the ferry back to Helsinki gave in to Christina Aguilera's fragrance. Yeah, I KNOW, but I fell in love with it ON THE SPOT. It had just enough vanilla in it to make it sweet but not stuffy. I like my fragrances fresh.

I hereby declare this the Embarrassing New Fandoms season.

The JoBros, as it turns out, were just the start of my downfall. I'm currently developing a severe, possibly terminal, addiction to The Vampire Diaries. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, FOR PETE'S SAKE. About angsty teen vampires. In ur high school, exerting Twilightian gender ideas on ur cheerleaders, one of whom has to be a reincarnated Lana Lang. Because she's just that ~perfect.

It's quite telling that I keep misreading the name of the show as The Vampire Diapers. Really, it's that BAD, but I won't lie: there are PERKS. 1.) IAN SOMERHALDER. 'Nuff said. 2.) The blatant, near-canonical, in-your-face broyay between Damon and Stefan. Think SPN is slashy? Think again.

For proof see this picspam by [info]thenyxie in which Damon does not acknowledge Stefan's personal space. Also note that NO ONE SPARKLES. My only complaint is that Stefan looks about ten years older than the average high school student, which is maybe because Paul Wesley is about ten years older than the average high school student. WTF? It's like old school 90210 all over again.

But seriously, that picspam. Check it out and then proceed to join the dark side. WE HAVE IAN SOMERHALDER.

As for other ships, I'm probably alone in wanting Vicki/Jeremy to happen, but so be it. I like and can identify a lot with both of them (er, issues) and they make about the least offensive het pairing I can think of. Where's the deflowering fic?!

Rambling now, thanks to the Shiny New Fandom rush I haven't had for ages. SPN has been particularly excellent, too! After 5x01-5x03 and the promo trailer/stills from 5x04, I have three things to say:

1.) Sam Winchester speaks to my lizard brain

2.) I have finally understood the epicness that is Dean/Castiel and fully embrace it (shut up, that doesn't mean Sam/Dean is cancelled, you silly monogamists, you)

3.) This is going to be the best season since Season 2. I just KNOW.

None of that was spoilery, I think? Just general show/season premises and other obviousities (is that even a word?). I'm too lazy for actual episode reactions, hah. They'd mostly consist of capslock and unintelligible flailing anyway. Off to read now!

ETA: Spoilers for The Vampire Diaries in the comments.

OH MY FUCKING GOD

John Barrowman has been announced for Collectormania London.

I had to check like FIVE TIMES cuz I couldn't believe MY EYES. Here I've been saying "wouldn't it be amazing if they got John Barrowman?" to myself FOR LIKE A WEEK, and then, out of the blue, THEY DO. This is because I'm a really skilled witch, isn't it? I can summon fabulous celebrities wherever I want them?

*concentrates hard on J2*

Seriously though, I'm going to be so broke and glowing after this trip that it's not even funny. I really only fangirl a small handful of actors -- usually I'm much more invested in what goes on on-screen and in fic than in anyone's private life -- and this handful just happens to include both Misha Collins and John Barrowman. In fact, it pretty much IS Misha Collins and John Barrowman. DOUBLY DYING NOW.

Here's to PRAYING that [info]claudia_writes gets the photo tickets. I TOTALLY WILLED THIS INTO EXISTENCE. \o/

Many good things have happened this week.

I got myself an extensive insurance and a dentist's appointment (the latter after almost a year's wait, good grief). I made some modest, but significant, progress with the thesis. I took out my sewing machine for the first time in about two years and half-improvised some ~wizard robes for a friend's performance, with satisfactory results. Got an amazing gift in return.

My books finally arrived, and oh my god. Lost Girls is everything I expected and so. much. more. Read it in two sittings, added straight into my favourite fanfics books of all time. It deserves its own pimp post really, but I have no access to a scanner for now. You can read all about it on this site called Wikipedia, though.

Two undoubtedly awesome books/graphic novels will be released later this autumn: Grandville ("an anthropomorphic steampunk detective-thriller"!) by Bryan Talbot and Glitter Scene by Monika Fagerholm. The latter I have been waiting for since the publication of The American Girl in 2004, which I had been waiting for since the publication of Diva in 1998. Fagerholm's works are like Christmas that only comes once or twice a decade, so precious and rare.

A relative gave me a really beautiful gift (yes, another!) that made me a bit sad but mostly happy. Musings on family history might or might not follow under f-lock.

The upcoming UK trip is another source of utter glee that deserves its own post (or seventy). Misha! [info]claudia_writes! [info]kat_lair! Everyone and everything else! *breathes into a paper bag*

So many other things I wanted to write about, but bed's calling. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

God YES. The Supernatural Role Playing Game and the single-volume edition of Lost Girls by Alan Moore are finally out. I've only been waiting for, what, two years? Getting to order both on the same day made me go slightly crazy for a moment and throw in Instant Magick: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Spellcraft by Christopher Penczak for good measure. Penczak is really accessible and down-to-earth and generally highly recommended if this is your sort of spirituality.

Out of curiousity, do some of you Finnish fangirls have experience on/interest in RPGs (as players or game moderators)? I played a couple of times when I was 16 and have forgotten absolutely everything since, but I'd love to start again even if it meant I had to be the GM. Which, to come to think of it, might be kind of awkward for everyone involved, but that's a topic for another time. The question is: if there was a game, would you under any circumstances be interested in participating?

I went to work briefly in the morning and spent the rest of the day at home sleeping off a sore throat and watching teevee. I wasn't overly impressed with Gossip Girl, but quite surprisingly liked Melrose Place -- or maybe just Katie and the fact that her character is a few things I always wanted Ruby to be. For this very reason I would die a happy fangirl if someone wrote Ella/Sam/Dean. It's bound to happen, no? Such are the rules of fandom?

I should fix my sleep rhythm. I wonder if looking intently at this photo for an extended period of time would work as an incentive. )

So thanks to a little sales speech from [info]bluesbell, I'm seeing Patrick Wolf on Oct 23rd. Yay? I haven't actually listened to his music all that much, but [info]bluesbell was persistent, linking to some rather pornographic videos, and I figured I wouldn't mind seeing that in action. The music wasn't too shabby either! I'm told a bunch of fangirls are going to be at the gig? :)

I've watched two films today: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wild Tigers I Have Known. The first was pretty boring (I have a hard time getting into anime no matter how good it is) and the second just pointless. The latter makes me sad because it had music by my beloved Emily Jane White and Current 93. In the same film! About a boy's sexual coming of age! Almost too good of a coincidence to be real! ...Well, it had some nice scenes and a very pretty love interest. Not much else.

I also watched the second episode of Glee. I wanted to love this show so bad but GOD. )

SPN on the other hand! I'm still flailing. My very short reaction )

Scary fact: I have 57 items in my SPN pic folder -- and 102 in my JoBros one. I'm disgusting, I know. In all fairness I do have about 200 SPN pics more on an old computer that's in the ex's custody... BUT STILL. It took me a couple of years to collect those. It's taken me a couple of months to go completely overboard with JoBros. And the obsession doesn't seem to be subsiding. Am I doomed to be uncool for the rest of my life?

Then again, if that means I get to look at Nick Jonas' shoulder-neck junction for the rest of my life... in a variety of white V-necks... I might not be that sorry. *gg*

This is a fun and poignant way to use the images of iconic evildoers to promote safe sex.

This sure as hell isn't. (NSFW, trigger warning)

As reader Suzanne puts it in the comments:

From associating HIV+ people with the likes of Hitler, to the porno-like quality of the images/video where the thin, pretty vulnerable young woman is having sex with the creepy old guy this is all sorts of wrong.

Just so you know, I've seen these images pop up on various websites going on four days without a SINGLE trigger warning. Never mind that the first image looks an awful lot like rape/assault to me, and the other two are just plain disgusting and wrong and triggering in their own right. What's possibly even worse is that starting in December they will be on German television. Merry Christmas to all survivors! Not.

A special FUCK YOU goes to the Iltasanomat "journalist" with the audacity to call the Hitler image "hot", of all things. There is absolutely, positively nothing hot about an ugly creepy mass murderer violating a much younger conventionally attractive woman. She did not agree to have sex with Hitler, that's the WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THE AD. You think she'd find it hot if she knew what was going on? If you do, you're seriously deluded. And do not even think about breaking out the fetish card here or I will cut you so help me god.

Sheesh. I wonder why so many women are turned off by our mainstream visual culture. And seriously, that's not to even TOUCH the creepy historical appropriation aspect of the campaign...

O hai, I completely forgot while my lappy wasn't cooperating: [info]kat_lair wrote me fluffy drabbles! Gesture (Sam/Dean, PG) and Two Princes (Adam/Kris, PG). I can't fully express my love for these -- I keep reading them again and again and the happy-making effect just doesn't wear off. Gosh, BEDTIME STORIES. How long have I dreamed that someone would fic it?

It is also an undeniable plus if I can make someone write out of their comfort zone, which would be AI for Kat. Go read the drabbles and don't forget to leave her some love! She has truly deserved it after the terrible ordeal. *eyelash bat of innocence*

Speaking of ordeals, turns out my university has an extracurricular BDSM/fetish club. They organise BONDAGE WORKSHOPS. Is this common? I have no idea but it does crack me up. :D I should infiltrate, y/n? (There's also a movie club with a John Hughes theme night coming up. I should go.)

Monday again. Friday was a bit of a let-down, whereas Saturday was mostly awesome -- not too many people showed up, but food and wine were plentiful and good times were indeed had. Brother and I took a crapload of photos, many of which turned out pretty good (stay tuned!). It's still all kinds of depressing, letting go of one's childhood home and all. I might have taken some soil from the backyard to keep forever and ever... It will make a very nerdy cool addition to my still-humble collection of tiny bottles, which contain water from the fountain of Castle Howard and from a river in a lush little valley on Mt. Patscherkofel. THIS IS A COPING STRATEGY, DO NOT JUDGE ME.

Also I hate Gimp. Unless this magically changes I'll have to switch back to Windows just so I can has my Photoshop.

Here's something to make you smile: Ben & Jerry's dubbed Chubby Hubby to Hubby Hubby in support of marriage equality. B&J's is actually one of the few brands I'm kind of religious about so I don't feel bad about advertising them at every turn. When can I get Hubby Hubby in Finland?

Hope everyone had a good weekend! From the meetup reports it seems that at least the Finns did. :)

Hi Flawless. )

The series premises sound all kinds of interesting, too. "Sweaty shirtless men" and "lady loving, antiquity style"? Sign me up!

Also, Nirvana vs Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give Your Teen Spirit up. Unlikely mashup is unlikely, and bloody brilliant.

I haven't been this sleep-deprived since that one time in February when a fave band kidnapped me and took me to Estonia (yeah, still bragging). Night before last, some shit went down with my phone and I ended up getting about three hours of sleep b/c I was so worried I'd miss work in the morning.

Then, last night, I got a surprise visitor from Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Not an unpleasant one, mind you, but the timing (phone call at 1am, arrival at 2.30am) really could have been better. I got about two hours of sleep. It's a small miracle that I didn't die at work in the morning. Then again, what wouldn't I suffer for a private showing of Sleeping Beauty? *g*

Thus: Bed, now.
